Hong Kong Maritime Week Focus: Enhancing Hong Kong’s Status as an International Maritime Centre
The sixth Capital Link Hong Kong Maritime Forum, co-hosted by the Hong Kong Chamber of Shipping and the renowned shipping platform Capital Link, was successfully held at the Hong Kong Maritime Museum in Central on the second day of the Hong Kong Maritime Week. Centered on the theme “The Transition of Shipping: Alternative Energy, Technological Innovation, and Financial Support," the forum brought together over 200 industry representatives from global leading shipping companies, ship management firms, financial institutions, and technology enterprises to explore sustainable development pathways for the industry. Mr. Vic Yau Cheuk Hang, Permanent Secretary for Transport and Logistics, also attended the event and delivered a keynote speech.

A robust and in-depth panel discussion on “Enhancing Hong Kong’s Role as an International Shipping Centre" formed the closing session. Panelists from various fields such as shipping, law, finance and energies highlighted that Hong Kong’s sound common law system, open financial market and mature maritime service cluster give it distinct competitive advantages in areas including ship financing, maritime arbitration, green fuel procurement and beyond. They also emphasized that Hong Kong should leverage the momentum of the global green shipping transition, take proactive steps to develop a modern green shipping ecosystem, and deepen synergy with Mainlandports on green fuel supply – all to shore up and elevate its standing as an International Shipping Center.

A post-forum networking reception, hosted by the Hong Kong Chamber of Shipping with the generous support of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), provided the perfect setting for guests to extend their discussions. Against the glittering backdrop of Victoria Harbour’s skyline, they deepened professional dialogues and fostered new connections.

This event not only served as a catalyst for knowledge sharing across the global shipping industry but also strengthened Hong Kong’s role as a super connector and its global standing as an international maritime hub. In light of this success, delegates concurred that regularly organizing forums of this caliber is key to securing Hong Kong’s more pivotal role in international shipping.
