Hong Kong Chamber of Shipping – About US

Who We Are

The Hong Kong Chamber of Shipping (HKCoS) is a non-profit, cross-sectoral organisation that unites stakeholders across the maritime value chain—from shipowners and port operators to professionals in energy, logistics, law, finance, and trade. Guided by leading voices across the industry, we aim to elevate the city’s strategic role as a premier International Maritime Centre (IMC); strengthen its integration within Mainland China’s shipping and logistics ecosystem; and the wider global maritime community.

Our Mission

HKCoS is committed to promoting Hong Kong’s transformation into a leading IMC and Green Shipping Hub—strengthening its global role and contributing to the well-being of the city. Our mission aligns with national development strategies and supports sustainable, high-value industry growth through education, engagement, and cross-sector collaboration.

Our Approach

To fulfill our mission, we focus on:

Ÿ Promoting sustainable maritime development and improving environmental and social governance (ESG)

Ÿ Cultivating talent through education, training, and public engagement

Ÿ Deepening cooperation with Mainland China

Ÿ Fostering integrated growth across maritime and related sectors

Through collaboration, advocacy, research and education, HKCoS helps position Hong Kong as a regional and global driver of maritime innovation.

Our Structure

HKCoS is governed by a Board of Directors comprising influential leaders from major shipowners, port operators, legal professionals, classification society, and energy companies. Board members serve as voting members and play a key role in guiding the Chamber’s strategic direction.

What We Do

HKCoS drives progress in four key areas:

Talent Development & Education

Talent Development & Education

We partner with the University of Hong Kong, Peking University, Shandong University, Xiamen University, Dalian Maritime University, and Shanghai Maritime University to train future practitioners in maritime law and services. Building on these ties, we are actively expanding collaborations with other institutions to develop talent in areas such as renewable energy, AI, marine insurance, and ESG.

Policy Engagement & Government Relations

Policy Engagement & Government Relations

We serve as a bridge between the maritime sector and government bodies in Hong Kong, Mainland municipal authorities, and the Central Government. We advocate for policies that support maritime sustainability, innovation, and the continued advancement of the maritime industry.

Research, Innovation & Sustainability
